Key Measurements Parents Need to Know

Proving Our Results

While many other tutoring programs offer a guarantee, KnowledgePoints offers both a guarantee and proven results.  Over the past five years, KnowledgePoints has commissioned an independent consultant to evaluate the effectiveness of our program for all students who have completed 40 tutoring lessons.  Our goal in gathering this important information was to show parents and students that KnowledgePoints is committed to ensuring all of our students are experiencing the same high quality of learning nationwide and more importantly, that the program is successful in addressing the learning gaps between students from different backgrounds.

Using Grade Equivalent Scores to Measure Growth

In the spring of 2005, Dr. Litzenberger completed an independent study on the effectiveness of the KnowledgePoints program. Results of the study as shown in the graph below reveal that on all four measures of reading and math, students achieved more than one year of growth in just 40 lessons. Dr. Litzenberger stated, “In relation to school semesters in which students receive about 90 hours of instruction in reading or math, students in the KnowledgePoints program achieved more than a full year of growth in less than half that time.”

Grade Equivalent Gains by Subject

In summary, Dr. Litzenberger concluded, “The KnowledgePoints tutoring program improves the performance of all students and can reduce the ‘performance gap’ that plagues our education system.” The same results have been evident in similar studies conducted in 2001 and 2003.  As KnowledgePoints has expanded nationwide into urban, suburban and rural settings, the outcome has been the same.  “Students tutoring in a KnowledgePoints program can get back to grade level and turn into a successful and productive performer in the classroom,” said Dr. Litzenberger.
