Study Skills Course

This structured 20 hour course lays a foundation for effective studying by teaching specific skills students need to be successful.  The lesson topics include:

  • individual learning styles and preferences
  • effective reading: main idea and context clues
  • organization and time management
  • conducting research and avoiding plagiarism
  • taking notes from textbooks
  • taking notes in class
  • preparing for tests
  • test-taking strategies

 

Study Skills & Homework Support

The application of study skills is integrated into the homework support program.  This program is most commonly requested during the school year.  As with all our programs, study skills are addressed using an individualized approach.  We take every opportunity to teach and reinforce effective study techniques, including:

  • time management and organization
  • strategies to study for tests
  • effective use of all study resources
  • techniques for remembering information

 

"How to Study for Tests" Workshop

This 2 1/2 hour workshop introduces the study skills students need to be successful test-takers.  The program includes:

  • identifying and using personal learning styles
  • understanding how memory works
  • using note-taking and organization systems
  • predicting test questions
  • applying test taking strategies
  • group activities and participation
  • for grades 6-12

 

"Middle School Success Tools" Workshop

A Special Workshop to Ease the Transition to Middle School

This 2 1/2 hour workshop is an overview of the study skills necessary to succeed in middle school.  The program includes:

  • binder organization
  • time management and project planning
  • note-taking
  • preparing for tests
  • motivation
  • group activities and participation
  • for grades 5-6
